With iPhone, iPad, Android and other mobile options available today, there’s little reason for Salesforce users to be tethered to their desks.
Salesforce Mobile is a valuable tool for Salesforce users that will boost productivity, improve data quality, and help make sure that being out of the office doesn’t mean being out of the loop.
One thing to keep in mind – while Salesforce Mobile for iPhone, Android and Blackberry is officially available and supported by Salesforce.com, the current version for iPad by Salesforce Labs is a free, unofficial, unsupported, open-source app.
Following are some tips that will help make Salesforce Mobile apps more effective for your Salesforce users:
Upgrade your devices
Whenever possible, give your team the latest mobile devices. Salesforce Mobile and Chatter supports the most current iPhone, Android and BlackBerry devices.
Salesforce Mobile users rarely need access to all the data and features in Salesforce. Users on the go tend to use a small subset of data and repeat the same tasks over and over, such as logging calls and emails and updating opportunities or cases that relate to their territories.
Choose the version that fits your needs
Salesforce offers two mobile versions: Mobile Lite, which is free across all editions, and the full version, which is free for Salesforce CRM Unlimited Edition users, or available via an add-on license for other editions.
Chatter Mobile for on-the-go collaboration
Salesforce Chatter is social platform for business communications that hooks into the existing Salesforce platform seamlessly and can greatly improve the ability of your employees to communicate and collaborate to produce great work. The mobile version is much like the desktop version, but smaller and with push notifications.
For your users that are not already using Salesforce, there are Chatter only licenses available for free.
Show them how to use it
As with any new application, it’s important to show users how to use Salesforce Mobile and how they’ll benefit. The Salesforce website has some great video demos for Salesforce Mobile and Chatter Mobile.
Don’t hit the wall
Be sure to work with your IT department to accommodate restrictions or requirements related to mobile devices. For example, if your BlackBerry devices can not connect through your corporate firewall, there may be security requirements that your IT folks will need to address.
Access to Salesforce Mobile is one of easiest ways to enhance the value of your Salesforce investment.
