The release of Salesforce Summer ’12 for comes with some minor changes and some great additions in functionality. Below are the highlights of this new release. For the full documentation of this release, please see the Salesforce Summer ’12 Release Notes link.
In part 1 of this blog post we covered Browser Support Changes.
In part 2, we cover the Know Issues Site, Chatter Messenger, and Chatter for iPhone and iPad.
Salesforce Summer ’12 Known Issues Site
You have been able to see the real time status of any Salesforce server on trust.salesforce.com for years and it has been quite helpful for server-wide issues. But when you run into something else, you usually have to call Salesforce support, only to be told that you have encountered a “known Issue” and that they are working on it.
With Salesforce Summer ’12, Salesforce has introduced their Known Issues site. Now, when you have an issue with something related to Salesforce like odd behavior or unexpected results from an action, you can do a quick check of this new site to see if there are any workarounds or when it will be resolved. This will be quite a time saver for busy Salesforce administrators.
Chatter Messenger
Ever since Salesforce released Chatter, users have been asking for real-time chat functionality and the ability to see who is online. We now have it with Chatter Messenger. You now have a small “Chat” box in the lower right of your screen (picture below).
When you click on it, it will expand and list the users in your company that you follow that are online (default). By using the settings icon (gear icon in the picture below), you can have it show people you follow that are not online. They will have a green dot next to their names when they are online and it turns grey when they are offline.
Chatter Messenger is enabled by default but administrators can disable it by going to the Chatter > Chat Settings in Setup. Please note that Chatter Messenger is not supported in Internet Explorer 7 and any IE7 users will not have access to it and will appear offline to other users.
As of the June 30th version of the Summer ’12 release notes, users on the NA4, NA5, and NA6 servers will have Chatter Messenger enabled on July 14th, 2012 so don’t panic if you do not see the chat box yet.
Chatter iOS 2.2 for iPhone and iPad
The new update now has push notifications so you do not have to constantly check for notifications. You can get or upgrade to the new version from iTunes or the App Store.
In part 3 of this blog post, we cover Shared Activities, Reports Tab Updates, Search Fields, Reports and Dashboard Folders.
