Data Integrity Best Practice: Remove all duplicates before importing data
You do not want to have duplicate data in Salesforce, so before you import data, check to make sure there are no duplicates in the file you are importing. It is easier to remove duplicates from a spreadsheet than it is once they are in Salesforce. Data Loader does not remove duplicates and although the Import Wizard attempts to merge duplicates, it is not always accurate, so it is safer to clean your records yourself!
General Setup Best Practice: Plan before creating custom objects
Salesforce custom objects allow you to extend functionality past the native Salesforce CRM suite, such as leads, accounts, and opportunities. Custom objects can be very helpful when you want to link multiple records to one record or create a new data table. Each custom object allows you to have two master/detail links, which allow for roll-up summary data from your custom object to the master object.
General Usage Best Practice: Customize your tabs to meet your navigation needs
Your tabs are what you see across the top of every Salesforce page, such as Home, Contacts, and Reports, and they are the primary way to navigate within Salesforce. In order to easily access where you need to go within Salesforce, you can customize your tabs by selecting the Plus (+) on the far right of all the tabs. You can then click the “Customize My Tabs” button in the upper right corner and add, remove, or rearrange the tabs in your navigation bar.
