StarrForce has updated our list of Salesforce Best Practices! We created our list of best practices from our extensive work with Salesforce customers to give you tips to improve your Salesforce experience. Our list contains best practices in the following fourteen categories: Activity Management, Case Management, Chatter, Dashboard Management, Data Integrity, Desktop Integration, Email Templates and Settings, General Setup, General Usage, Lead Management, Opportunity Management, Report Management, Sales Forecasting, and Workflow and Automation.

Here are examples of some of our Salesforce Best Practices from our Case Management, Email Templates and Settings, and Sales Forecasting categories.

Case Management Best Practice: Utilize Profile or Validation Rules to Limit Editing Case Fields

By using profile or validation rules you are able to control who has access to edit certain fields. These rules help prevent cases from accidentally being altered or edited. Once a case comment is saved, only an administrator should have access to edit it.

Email Templates and Settings Best Practice: Standardize Your Templates

When creating emails in Salesforce, you want to be consistent and brand your emails by using a letterhead and creating a consistent signature. If your email template has an attachment, be sure to save that file in one of your documents folders and then link the file in your folder to your template. This way, when you edit or update that file, all of the email templates using that file will automatically attach the updated version and you don’t have to manually change each template.

Sales Forecasting Best Practice: A Close Date Should Never be in the Past

The close date is your best estimate of when you expect to close a sale. This estimate will change during your sales process with the customer, and you want to make sure to update the close date in Salesforce so you don’t have any close dates in the past. Since the close date affects your sales pipeline and forecasting, you do not want it to be set in stone and you want to continually update it.
