Everyone knows that you create a new lead under the lead object.
However, if you want to make sure you do not create a new Salesforce duplicate record, you can also use the lead object to create a new contact.
Using the “Find Duplicates” feature when creating a new lead you may find the new contact already in your Salesforce database. Then you can convert the lead and merge it with the existing contact with updated information or delete the lead if the information is the same.
IF “Find Duplicates” does not find any other contacts of the same name then you can convert the lead as a contact under the existing account and tell Salesforce not to create a new Opportunity.
This best practice is a simple way to avoid creating Salesforce duplicate records.
